How to sign up on InfoJobs, complete your profile and look for work

Ubuntu Canarias · 9 min read

A person using InfoJobs on a laptop, next to the steps: sign up, complete your profile, search for offers and apply.

If you have never used InfoJobs, or if job websites feel hard to use, this guide explains what to do, step by step. You don't need computer skills: take each step calmly, one at a time.

1. What do I need before I start?

Before you create your account, have these ready:

  • A mobile phone.
  • An email address you can open.
  • A password you can remember.
  • Your personal details.
  • Information about your past jobs.
  • Your studies and courses.
  • The languages you speak.
  • Your CV, ideally as a PDF, if you already have one.

Important: if you don't have an email address, you will need to create one first. Your email and your password are personal: don't share them with anyone.

2. Go to InfoJobs

You can use InfoJobs on your phone or on a computer. Go to the InfoJobs website or open the app and look for the «Regístrate» (Sign up) option (it may also say «Darse de alta» (Register)). Tap it to begin.

3. Create your account

InfoJobs will ask you for some details to create your account. Write them exactly as they appear on your documents. Check these carefully:

  • First name and surnames.
  • Email address.
  • Phone number.
  • Password.
  • Place of residence.

Check your email address before you continue. One mistake in the address can stop you from getting important messages from InfoJobs. When you're done, continue with the sign-up.

4. Confirm your email

After you sign up, InfoJobs may send you a confirmation message. Open your email and look for a message from InfoJobs. It may be in your «Recibidos» (Inbox) or, if you can't find it, in «Spam», «Correo no deseado» (Junk mail) or «Promociones» (Promotions). Open it and tap the verification button or link.

If the email doesn't arrive, check:

  • That you wrote your address correctly.
  • Your Spam and Junk mail folders.
  • That you are connected to the Internet.

5. Complete your CV on InfoJobs

Once your account is ready, it's time to complete your profile. Look for the «CV» section: this is where you add your work information. Don't worry if you can't do it all at once; you can come back later to change it or add what's missing.

6. Personal details

Fill in the details the website asks for. Your contact information needs to be up to date, especially your phone number, email and place of residence. That way, a company can contact you if it is interested in your application.

7. Add your work experience

This section is very important. For each job you have done, try to include:

  • Job title: for example, kitchen assistant, waiter/waitress, cleaner, carer, shop assistant, bricklayer, warehouse worker or office assistant.
  • Company: the name of the company, if you know it.
  • Dates: when you started and when you finished.
  • Tasks: a short description of what you did.

For example, for a cleaning job in hotels: cleaning rooms and bathrooms, changing bed linen, restocking products and cleaning shared areas.

Tip: don't just write «I cleaned». It's better to explain what kind of work you did.

8. What if I worked without a contract?

Don't make anything up. If you have experience you want to show on your profile, you can ask for guidance on how to present it well. What matters is not to invent companies, jobs, dates or qualifications.

9. Add your studies

Look for the «Formación» (Training) or «Estudios» (Education) section and add the ones you have. For example:

  • Secondary education.
  • Upper secondary (Bachillerato).
  • Vocational training.
  • Professional certificates (certificados de profesionalidad).
  • Training courses.
  • Training for a trade.

If you have courses related to the job you're looking for, it's especially important to include them.

10. Add languages

List the languages you really know: for example, Spanish, Arabic, French, English or Portuguese. If the website lets you choose a level, pick the one that matches yours. Don't choose a higher level than you have: they may check it in an interview.

11. Add other skills

Depending on the job you want, you can add useful skills, for example:

  • Computer skills.
  • Driving licence.
  • Using tools or machinery.
  • Preparing orders.
  • Food handling.
  • Professional cleaning.
  • Caring for older people or looking after children.
  • Construction.
  • Customer service.

Only include what you really know how to do.

12. Upload your CV

If you already have a CV, you can attach it to your profile, ideally as a PDF. Before you upload it, check that:

  • It is easy to read.
  • It has your contact details.
  • Your experience is up to date.
  • It has no mistakes.
  • The file isn't too big: InfoJobs only accepts some formats and has a size limit.

Very important: uploading your PDF doesn't mean you can leave your InfoJobs CV empty. It's a good idea to fill in your profile information too.

13. How to look for work

Once your profile is complete, you can start looking for job offers. Go to «Buscar empleo» (Search jobs) and type the job you want: for example, cleaning (limpieza), waiter/waitress (camarero/a), shop assistant (dependiente/a), carer (cuidador/a), warehouse worker (mozo/a de almacén), delivery driver (repartidor/a), office assistant (administrativo/a), electrician (electricista), bricklayer (albañil) or customer service (atención al cliente).

14. Choose the location

This step is very important. If you are looking for work in Gran Canaria, you can choose Las Palmas de Gran Canaria or other towns on the island, such as Telde, Arucas, Gáldar, Santa Lucía de Tirajana, San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Agüimes, Mogán, Teror or Ingenio. Only choose places you can really travel to.

15. Use the filters

Filters help you find offers that suit you. You can filter by location, working hours, type of contract, job category, and remote or on-site work. Use them to match your situation.

16. Read the offer before you apply

Before you tap «Inscribirme» (Apply), read the whole offer and check:

  • Workplace: can you get there?
  • Working hours: can you work those hours?
  • Type of contract: is it temporary or permanent?
  • Requirements: do you have the experience or training they ask for?
  • Driving licence: if they ask for one, do you have it?
  • Languages: if they ask for a language, do you have the level needed?

17. Apply for an offer

If you are interested in the offer and meet the requirements, tap «Inscribirme en esta oferta» (Apply for this offer) and follow the steps InfoJobs shows you. Some offers include questions: answer them clearly and honestly.

Important: creating an InfoJobs account doesn't sign you up for every offer. You have to apply to each offer you're interested in, one by one.

18. What happens after I apply?

The company looks at the applications it receives. They may write to you, call you, invite you to an interview, or you may not go on to the next stage. If a company doesn't reply, it doesn't mean your profile isn't good enough: keep searching and applying for other offers that suit you.

19. Create job alerts

InfoJobs lets you create alerts from your searches, for example «Limpieza en Las Palmas» (Cleaning in Las Palmas), «Camarero en Gran Canaria» (Waiter in Gran Canaria) or «Atención al cliente en Las Palmas» (Customer service in Las Palmas). That way, you hear about new offers without repeating the same search every day.

20. Mistakes to avoid

  • Leaving your CV empty: fill in as much information as you can.
  • Making up experience: don't invent jobs, companies or qualifications.
  • Making up languages: give your real level.
  • Using an email you never check: you need to be able to get messages.
  • A wrong phone number: check that your number is correct.
  • Always sending the same CV without checking it: adapt it to the kind of job you want.
  • Applying for any offer: read the requirements first.
  • Paying to get a job: be careful with anyone who asks you for money to get a job.

21. Safety

Never send:

  • Passwords.
  • Verification codes.
  • Bank details that aren't needed.
  • Photos of your bank cards.
  • Money to get a so-called job.

If an offer makes you unsure, ask for advice before going further.

22. A tip from Ubuntu Canarias

Don't lose heart if you don't get an answer straight away. Looking for work takes time and patience. What matters is having a well-prepared profile and continuing to look for offers that fit your experience and your availability.

A good profile doesn't guarantee you a job, but an incomplete profile can mean your application is missing important information.
